“Hearing” plays an important role throughout the New Testament. Paul writing to the Romans said: “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (10:17). A good example is the case of the Samaritan woman, who heard directly from Jesus that He was the Messiah (Jn. 4:25). Immediately she went to the city to tell others about her encounter with Him. The people from Samaria told to the woman in verse 42: “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that He is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the World”. Another good example is the case of Latin America; where radio is the only way many people will ever hear the Gospel. At Spanish World Ministries, our main task, as the Samaritan woman, is to go and proclaim through our programs that Christ is the only Savior.

Maybe you’ve heard that in Perú workers searched collapsed homes and churches in Peru
for victims of a massive 7.9-magnitude earthquake that killed more than
500 people and injured 1,300, cracked and cut off roadways and left
thousands without power. Our missionary in Peru, René Hurtado,
said that the earthquake has devastated several Peruvian cities; people
do not have access to water, food supplies, nor television. Radio is
the only way people can get to know what is happening in the disaster
area. 7 radio stations in the affected area are broadcasting our programs. Our hope is that people who survived this catastrophe, after hearing His Word through our programs will obtain the security of eternal life by trusting Jesus.

At the beginning of the year, 114 stations were broadcasting our programs in Paraguay. By August 40 stations have been added to that number. Besides visiting radio stations, our missionary Roberto Acuña,
has been investing time visiting churches and pastors to encourage them
to sponsor the programs. As he traveled to Villa Florida, he had the
opportunity to give our booklets “Jesus Saves” to people he met along
the way.
During this year Eduardo Peirano, our missionary in Uruguay,
has visited 13 churches to share with them how our radio programs can
help local churches in their task of proclaiming the Gospel. Some
churches have responded not only sponsoring our programs, but even
inviting Eduardo to share God’s Word. Last month, besides preaching in
a church in the town of Melo, Eduardo shared the Gospel in parks and
several children and young people heard the message of salvation and accepted Jesus as their Savior.
Luis Prada, in Colombia, has
contacted 20 church leaders and more than 30 radio stations in the last
six months. As a result of his efforts in Colombia 75 radio stations
are transmitting our programs. Can you imagine how many people that
listen to our programs per month have the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ?
Cuba’s
government has jammed radio signals for several years. Their
anti-broadcast arsenal
consists of antiquated jamming equipment. In
spite of this effort on the part of the government, people are hearing about Jesus Christ through our program El Camino de la Vida (The way of life), and several others as well. Recently our contact in Cuba
traveled through 3 different provinces visiting people who listened to
our programs and have written to us. In each place people expressed
their gratitude for the visit, especially for the CD’s with our
programs that they received from our missionary.
Our confidence is that every day, somewhere in Latin America, many people are hearing
that Jesus is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the World. With your
giving and your praying, we are able to carry this message through the
production of our radio programs, the efforts of our national missionaries, and the Christian literature that we distribute. Thank you for your help in carrying out the message of Salvation!
IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO SUPPORT US FINANCIALLY,
WOULD YOU CONSIDER DOING SO NOW?
