A BRIEF HISTORY OF SPANISH WORLD MINISTRIES

After 28 years as a missionary to Cuba , Haiti and Europe , Florent Toirac, a Cuban national, knew well the difficulties of reaching the masses of Hispanic people in hard to get to remote areas. Radio was a way to reach them, so he established Spanish World Gospel Broadcasting with the radio program, El Camino de la Vida ("The Way of Life"). It was broadcasted initially into Spain and then expanded to other parts of the world. The broadcast is now heard 2500 times weekly on more than 600 stations in all Spanish-speaking countries.

To accomplish the discipleship process, national missionaries were added to the ministry. These are supported with funds from the USA and they are given literature and Bibles to distribute. The ministry's name was then changed to Spanish World Gospel Mission . The missionary team has grown to 23 couples and ministering to 13 countries. We reach Cuba through radio from Miami and Bon Aire, and with correspondence form Mexico. Our vision is to have at least one missionary unit in each of the Spanish-speaking countries!

Mr. Toirac died in 1989 and Cornelius Rivera became Executive Director in 1991. Rev. Rivera has continued to expand the facets of ministry and has led Spanish World into a fourth facet of ministry. The vision for humanitarian work grew out of the hurricane devastation of Honduras , C.A. in 1998. Twelve homes and a church were constructed for flood victims. A missionary training center and permanent medical clinic are under construction. These projects provide US citizens the opportunity for ministering in a third-world country. The mission is now known as Spanish World Ministries , reflecting our multi-facetted global outreach.
